L
ife on earth is dependent on the sun. Since its birth, 4.5 billion years ago, the sun has consumed approximately half of the hydrogen in its core. Eventually it will run out of hydrogen fuel and transition into a red giant phase, with a maximum radius well beyond the Earth's current orbit. Before that happens, however, an increase in solar temperature will render Earth too hot for liquid water to exist, ending all terrestrial life. Enjoy things while you can.
“If I had to choose a religion, the sun as the universal giver of life would be my god.” - Napoleon Bonaparte
