A sense of place and time. Geographic space encircles the planet, through which biological life moves. Some specific geographic places foster a sense of unique dignity. Hiking across the Flint Hills in the early morning is a priceless experience made even better when shared by a group. Reviewing these images from the fall trip stimulates desire for a return engagement. It has been a while since I have been on the prairie in the winter. Perhaps it is time to organize another student photographic expedition.

“Ever since the 1860s when photographers travelled the American West and brought photographs of scenic wonders back to the people on the East Coast of America we have had a North American tradition of landscape photography used for the environment.” - Galen Rowell
