nce again, I am thinking of the position photography holds in our culture as an accurate arbitrator of truth. This perceptive understanding has persisted ever since, and perhaps partly because of, its compound invention as a science in the early 1800's. Nevertheless, although the “Pencil of Nature” process is a faithful recorder of light, it is also exceptionally capable of making undisclosed images of pure abstraction.
