Drops

Surface tension
Sphere interaction

I conducted a series of “proof of concept” experiments yesterday to support my color imaging class assignments, and will integrate the results into my image stream. Here is the first, a macro photograph of water drops on the surface of an optical compact disk. As the pattern of recorded musical information is encoded in 1.6-micron equidistant line indentations, the CD acts like a reflective diffraction grating, generating constructive and deconstructive wavelength dispersive modulation.

“During exposure, interference takes place between the incident rays and those reflected by the mirror, with the formation of interference fringes half a wavelength distant from each other.” - Gabriel Lippmann
