P sychophysics is the scientific study of the relation between stimulus and sensation. Similarities and dissimilarities between separate entities establish a form of organization. The significant measurement is a “just noticeable difference,” defined as the smallest detectable difference between a first and secondary level of a particular sensory stimulus. When the input is an increase in intensity, the just-noticeable difference between two stimuli is proportional to the magnitude of the stimuli. This does not hold for other types of stimulus differences, like radiation wavelength.
