Intellectual abstraction

T he function of art is stimulative not imitative. Reaching non-representational conclusions through the brain and not exclusively through the eye, abstraction is an intellectual process. Before visual analysis takes place, overall structural features are registered, leading to derivative concepts. Tangible appearance is an incomplete reflection of a universal essence.

“The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance, and this, and not the external manner and detail, is true reality.” - Aristotle
