Glass Entrance

   U.S. Steel
Tower 600
Grant Street

A s a fan of photorealistic painting, I am always happy when I find a scene that will render in a hyperrealism manner. Generally, this takes the form of clean geometric city structures incorporating lots of reflective glass. The idea of making a photograph that emulates a method of using photographs as a source to make paintings that are even more realistic than a photograph is wonderfully circuitous, questioning both art and actuality.

This image is a representation of a ground level entryway into the 841 foot high U.S. Steel Tower, the tallest skyscraper in Pittsburgh. Architecturally unique for its triangular shape with indented corners, the building also features massive exterior steel columns. A 360-degree, gigapixel panorama of the view from the building's rooftop is available at http://www.gigapan.org/gigapans/47373/.

Many light years in space
I'll build a world of abstract dreams
And wait for you”
