Actual Abstraction

A 'Pure Abstraction' would be any work of art that has no recognizable subject; depicts nothing real. Some have suggested that the camera must always deal with actuality; that photography must by inherent nature capture reality, something that exists in the universe. This question of photographic abstraction is worthy of further investigation, with other interesting layers of meaning tossed into the mix. Is abstraction a made-made construct only? Is abstraction a naturally occurring phenomenon? Are elemental forces of nature, like energy, matter, space, and time, best rendered as abstract forms?

“In every landscape should reside jewels of abstract art waiting to be discovered.” - Melissa Brown
