January 02, 2011Ambient Ambulation

Delicate

   Infinite sensitivity
Fine discrimination
Fragile interface

T he dynamic scene just outside my office on a recent sunny morning here is approached as an "ambientambulation." In the island between parking-lot pavement patches, a large Sycamore tree displays the characteristic light-colored mottled exfoliating bark of maturity. Maturity of a landscape continues throughout the period of maximum topographic differentiation, or until an observer obtains exposure saturation.

“A garden is to be a world unto itself, it had better make room for the darker shades of feeling as well as the sunny ones.” - William Kent
