irst erected as a seminary for the Vermont Methodist Conference in 1872, this magnificent educational building is an excellent example of the Empire style. Considered a form of propaganda through architecture, the design incorporates symbols and ornaments appropriated from the ancient Greek and Roman empires. For ten days early this month, it was the center of passionate and invigorating activities as I started a low residency Master of Fine Arts program. Converted into gallery display spaces, many of the high ceilinged classrooms become a locus of significant artistic discourse. Another episode of intensive creative training will emerge in six months when my next residency is scheduled. This is going to be great.
