lthough I brought my Canon 5D Mark II to the MFA residency, along with a carefully selected arsenal of lenses, the schedule of activates precluded much opportunity for serious image capture. I only managed to slice about two hours out of the ten days to exercise the shutter. Surprisingly, however, the value of the two episodes was more in the mental shift evoked rather than the images recorded. The cognitive circuits employed in visually exploring and creatively engaging an environment are much different from those used in the formal academic setting, even though the subject matter in this case was closely related. Nevertheless, next time I will lighten my load by just bringing a small point and shoot camera.
