Still Standing

   Long winter
For the present
Remaining upright

U nderstory is the term for the low plants growing on the forest floor well below the tree canopy. The wavelengths of radiation there available are just a subset of sunlight's full spectrum. Understory plants must be shade tolerant and able to photosynthesize successfully with this limited amount of ambient light. Thus these few left over grasses are kind of spindly and spaced apart as viewed from the Opossum Hollow trail in Knob Noster State Park, on a very early spring hike.

“Sitting quietly, doing nothing, spring comes, and the grass grows by itself.” - Zen Proverb
