iking out on the Kansas prairie early in the spring, periodically a low wet area suddenly is encountered. These small streams provide an interesting visual break from the miles of grass and embody an interesting ecological subsystem. This particular narrow rivulet cuts deep into the soil, indicating that during a rain storm it is transformed into a raging torrent, as water follows the path of least resistance.
