osses are small, soft, non-vascular plants which usually grow close together as clumps or mats in damp shady locations. There are approximately 12,000 different species spread out all over the world. In some places they agreeably form a carpet-like appearance on the forest floor. These particular specimens were captured at Knob Noster State Park with my 50mm f3.5 Olympus macro lens using the zone focus method. Because I didn't want to lie prone on the damp ground to gaze through the viewfinder, I simply adjusted the lens to focus at its closest point, and held the camera low and near the spore stalks. This modality worked surprisingly well in producing a composition sufficiently organized to warrant consideration.
“I consider nature a vast chemical laboratory in which all kinds of composition and decompositions are formed.” - Antoine Lavoisier
