s the seasonal explosion of green growth kicks into high gear, I like to reflect on what is left-over from last year's yield. The concept of survival in contrast to renewal is a theme which periodically materializes in my work. This isolated clump of Typha has weathered the long winter, responding to prevailing directional forces. Pure coincidence occasionally produces compelling formalistic artistic results, here based on color and shape organization. Considering isolated similarities by themselves, a primitive human might be inspired to create a woven mat after examining individual leaf geometry and positional relationships.
