Over Extent

   Cover of January skies
Fantabulous night
Moon movement

E xtended exposures which include the moon in the visual composition are sometimes reasonably effective, even with a diffuse cloud envelop. The combination acts like a giant soft box, providing smooth, broad, and even light across the landscape. On this particular night, the clouds were moving fast in an upper-level air stream, causing some intermittency to the dispersion. Observing animated water vapors flowing past the bright moon during long 30 minute exposures is engaging. After investing much time and energy into one scene, the image that appears on the camera LCD is an excellent reward.

“Our job is to record, each in his own way, this world of light and shadow and time that will never come again exactly as it is today.” - Edward Abbey
