On the Dam

   Wind sweep
Conjunction barrier
Impound water

F riday night at Maple Leaf Lake, seventeen degrees and blowing snow, things are interesting. Making a series of exposures as the sun continued dropping below the horizon; there is a brief period when the blue hour gives way to the night. This exposure was made just at that event juncture. Images captured before and after were not as good. Because the atmosphere refracts radiation, some light continues to reach the ground even when the sun is below the horizon by as much as 50 minutes of arc.

“Night is the other half of life, and the better half.” - Goethe
