A s the world turns. Watching the moon rise at the Haysler A. Poague Conservation Area, a damaged tree frames the scene nicely. Mining operations in the past did not require reclamation procedures, so spoil dumps were left as they were produced. The final mining cuts were then simply abandoned and left open to fill with water and form strip mine impoundments. This 879 acre conservation area exists in its disturbed post excavation condition, with steep ridges and a concentration of deep narrow strip pit water ponds scattered about, a truly great venue for photographic explorations. Occasionally the exploitive greedy behavior of humans can evolve into something constructive.

“A friend of mine once sent me a post card with a picture of the entire planet Earth taken from space. On the back it said, "Wish you were here."” - Stephen Wright
