symmetrical balance is a most excellent harmonious configuration for positioning constituent elements on opposite sides of an imaginary dividing line about a center axis. When visually engaging with my environment, I confidently respond when presented such an arrangement, recognizing the compositional potential. The key to this protocol is establishing the imaginary line, which by definition exists only in the mind. Visual artistic skill is the ability to resourcefully confront and deal with reality by using the creative power of the mind, reconciling opposing qualities into a new unity.
