cattered about the Pape Lake environs are several isolated sodium vapor street lights. On previous visits about half of them were not operational, a malfunction favorable for natural light night photography. But this time they were all shinning bright as the sun descended. Why these are needed is a mystery, as they seem to serve no useful purpose and burn valuable energy resources. At first I was less than pleased with this unexpected circumstance, but then quickly accepted the situation and decided to incorporate the radiation pollution into my creative process. In this example, the warm yellow light from the nearby artificial source casts an eerie atmospheric ambience to the landscape.
