Evening Star

   Quiescence proportions
Comparative magnitude
Balance among parts

L ong periods of quality time spent photographing at night offer an enlightening perspective. As the evening advances, perception amplifies. Every episode helps to deepen an appreciation for the workings of the planet and the magnitude of the universe. Becoming increasingly in touch with the foundations of existence, this orientation informs other daily activities. Somehow things previously considered important no longer seem so significant. I am gradually coming to the conclusion that western culture has become disoriented simply due to isolation from natural nighttime conditions. We pay a high price for bright city lights.

“Night, the beloved. Night, when words fade and things come alive. When the destructive analysis of day is done, and all that is truly important becomes whole and sound again. When man reassembles his fragmentary self and grows with the calm of a tree.” - Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
