White Tree Terminus

   Single main stem
Abiotic expiration
Condition result

P ermanent flooding is hazardous to affected plant life. Scattered across many of the synthetic lakes and ponds in western Missouri are the remnants of trees. It is amazing how long they remain standing above the water, slowly being whittled away by the elements. This particular specimen is located just northeast of the fishing pier on Hazel Hill Lake. I have made a few photographs of the anxious scene during the day, but consider this nocturnal version to much better evoke the stoic resignation symbolized by the material indifference. Placed within the broad context of the cosmos, fate can be calmly accepted as the unavoidable result of natural order. Philosophically no condition or circumstance can be categorized as strictly artificial, although everything might be accidental. The fishing lure stuck at the top of the tree is a nice touch.

“Maybe I'm lucky to be going so slowly, because I may be going in the wrong direction.” - Ashleigh Brilliant
