Lunar Echoes

   Silver wand
Sailing wind
Ghost of dawn

A fter the visual system has accommodated, the night is remarkably bright by the light of the silvery moon. Photographing after the sun goes down opens up a wondrous world of creative opportunity, with each episode uniquely interesting. This activity involves a degree of precision and organization that requires planning and efficiency, virtues that inform and influence the more customary daytime efforts. Winter is particularly good, as the darkness ensues earlier, lasts longer, and the atmosphere carries less moisture thus is especially clear. Of course there is the need to dress for the cold, as several hours in sub-freezing temperatures while waiting for long duration image captures will drain body heat. So yesterday I went to the local “Farm & Home” store to purchase thick wool socks and a pair of Glacier Neoprene gloves. Perhaps on the next enjoyable outing my extremities will be more comfortable, allowing for longer exposure to the elements.

“A dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world.” - Oscar Wilde
