nother miniseries positioned within a larger context, this image exemplifies my smoothly applied horizontal panning technique. The technical approach evolved from my work with stitched panoramic images, which employ a spinner mechanism between the tripod ballhead and the camera mount, allowing for registered multiple landscape captures to be combined in post-processing. In this implementation, however, I am only making one exposure. But by using the 10 stop neutral density filter and thus extending the shutter duration, I am able to slowly move the lens across the scene in a horizontal axis arc, simultaneously combining multiple view points in a controlled radiation smear. It is intellectually satisfying to work with extreme precision to produce capricious results. The ensuing imagery is compatible with both my “Deep Focus” and “ambientAmbulation” projects, providing an additional yet diverse twist to the ongoing artistic discourse.
“It is human nature to stretch, to go, to see, to understand. Exploration is not a choice, really; it's an imperative.” - Michael Collins
