he last capture of the evening, I composed this symphony on a whim. In this compass direction, it seemed as if there might be too much light pollution to get a good image of the stars. In addition, there was a sodium vapor street light off to the left which was behaving erratically. Apparently it was suffering from an identity crisis, as it would spasmodically flicker on and off rather randomly. But I was really attracted by the lone isolated swing set juxtaposed against the vastness of the universe. Wispy clouds moving across the sky during the 15 minute exposure adds to the action.
So pleased am I with the results, this effort has now launched a creative project. The idea is to photograph a variety of playgrounds at night, devoid of people but full of meaning. I can already envision the body of work presented as a cohesive statement hanging on the walls of a gallery. Time to get seriously working.
“The aim of every artist is to arrest motion, which is life, by artificial means and hold it fixed so that a hundred years later, when a stranger looks at it, it moves again since it is life.” - William Faulkner
