M aple Leaf Lake Conservation Area features a 140 acre man-made fishing lake, which if you use your imagination is roughly in the shape of a Maple leaf. In addition to a large main dam, there are two smaller “sediment dams” located on the primary drainage input junctures. Sediments are particles of eroded soil suspended in water carried downstream by streams and estuaries. When the current slows sufficiently, the particles sink to the bottom, and if uncontrolled would gradually fill up the lake. This erosion control photograph was made from atop the sediment embankment separating the lake from the western silt basin.

“I want my mind to be a sail, susceptible to any breeze that might be blowing across the lake of consciousness.” - William Collins
