ince moving to Warrensburg, late every summer I have been attending the annual Missouri State Fair, primarily as a rich visual venue for photography. This 11 day event has operated continuously since 1901 in Sedalia. The attraction for me is the large throng of deviating people engaged in ritualistic behavior, all crowded into an artificially contrived carnival of flashing lights and gaudy color. This year I made two trips, each time with a different compliment of lenses. The experience of the first effort informs the activities of the second, and I will present the resulting images in sequential batches.
I find it interesting to go back and review Fair images from each year, as they embody my creative concerns and artistic development at equal time intervals. Although the overall ambiance and general subject matter remains the same, the approach, tool set and rendering modalities are always divergent.
