Heavy Traffic | Restrictive entry Congested corridor Commuter accommodation |
O
n a recent trip back to the geography of my childhood, we traveled between Arlington and Manassas on Interstate 66 to visit my sister and her family. This east-west highway is excessively crowded, and reminds me of the advantages of living in a small Midwest town. The DC metro area has become densely populated, extremely spread-out, and getting around is a daunting experience. Here the consequences of urban sprawl are acute.
“After endless days of commuting on the freeway to an antiseptic, sealed-window office, there is a great urge to backpack in the woods and build a fire.” - Charles Krauthammer
