timulus discrimination. A recurrent photographic subject, this old “tree silo” near Knob Noster remains interesting each time I pass-by. It is curious, as I speculate on exactly how a tree could get established at the bottom of such a structure. Certainly it could not get much direct sunlight during its initial development. I suppose that the phototropic young sapling must simply make the best of its situation and respond to the light at the end of the tunnel. Sort of a metaphor for life, as we all must respond to our external environment. Stimuli are events in the environment that influence behavior, and although we cannot control the stimulus, we can control the response.
“Between stimulus and response is our greatest power - the freedom to choose.” - Stephen R. Covey
