lthough the North American honeybee population has been allegedly in decline, I noticed that this year my Sage patch was attracting them in large numbers. So I mounted the Vivitar Series One 90-180/4.5 Flat Field Macro Zoom onto my Canon 5D Mark II and positioned myself to document the action. Macro photography requires meticulous attention to detail and profuse persistence, but provides its own brand of reward. The great thing about this lens, in addition to acute sharpness, is the working distance which allows access without disturbing the small busy subjects.
“A bee is never as busy as it seems; it's just that it can't buzz any slower.” - Kin Hubbard
