Proprioception | Space orientation sense Vary muscle contraction Incoming information |

ecently I have been interested in unconscious sensory input systems. Specifically, I have been changing my running technique in an effort to become more efficient and less injury prone. Proprioception and kinesthesia are sensory feedback means for motor control and posture. Kinesthesia is the sensation of joint motion and acceleration. Proprioception is the sensory modality that provides feedback exclusively on internal body status. It indicates body movement associated with required effort, as well as spatial positioning of the various body parts in relation to each other and the environment. Theses mechanisms along with the vestibular system, a fluid filled inner-ear network which evaluates gravity to maintain balance, unconsciously operate to provide a constant influx of sensory information. The brain can then transmit immediate and unconscious adjustments to muscles and joints to realize movement and equilibrium. In addition to this being significant during running, it also comes into play when descending stairs.
“Universal dynamism must be rendered as dynamic sensation ... motion and light destroy the substance of objects.” - Futurist manifesto
