isiting these majestic turbines was a remarkable experience – in many ways surreal. Out in the tallgrass prairie of the Flint Hills, one hundred giant windmills are spread over 7,907 acres. This is part of the Elk River Wind Farm located southeast of El Dorado, Kansas. Each windmill is 389 feet tall at the apex of its uppermost blade position. As they slowly turn, interesting shadows dance in patches on the grass in rhythm with their gentle whooshing sound.
