Transitory Reality

   On a hill
Gusty wind
Near the beginning

Y esterday was World Wide Pinhole Day 2009, and for the occasion I made a new lensless optic, a pinring. This is like a pinhole with the center filled in, or a single sector zoneplate. I really like how it renders radiation and plan to put it into my pinhole turret for frequent use. This image was made while riding my bike around Warrensburg after a morning thunderstorm passed. It was still extremely windy, and each time I stopped to photograph I was concerned the airstream would blow my bike over.

“My desire is most strongly to bring forward one phase of what in photography is called artistic focusing, produced by the entire suppression of the lens, and the reduction of the means employed for the concentration of the rays of light on the sensitive plate to the most elementary form of the camera obscura.” - Alfred Maskell, 1890
