hen stripped of foliage, deciduous trees can be quite anthropomorphic. Dwelling within each individual plant is an incessant and deliberately functioning life force. Botanists have determined that Cottonwoods can live to be over 100 years old. Therefore it is possible these two splendid survivors, located on the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve, were living during the early history of Spring Hill Ranch. Representing a tie to the past, it is entertaining to consider what memories are buried in the souls of these trees.
