was disappointed to see that Wood's grocery store recently ceased operating at this Sedalia location and the building is now vacant. The curvaceous arching roof that defines this structure is known as googie architecture, influenced by car culture and space-age industrial design of the mid-twentieth century. This genre is an endangered species: not new enough to easily save, yet not old enough to be considered historically significant. The few that still survive are remnants of a utopian future dream that never materialized - "a tomorrow that never was."
“People aren't generally able to appreciate architectural history that happened in their lifetime. You tell people that the restaurant they went to as a teenager has history and they look at you like you have three heads.” Chris Jepsen
