lthough no longer a functioning corporation, it is still possible to find remnants of the Western Auto Supply Company franchise operation. At its peak, there were 1,200 company-owned stores located in metropolitan areas and more than 4000 associate stores (private franchise dealers) located in small towns. This vestige sign was found in Yates Center, Kansas.
To create today's image, I used Dynamic Auto Painter, a new software application produced by Mediachance. It is designed to render a photo into a painting, with famous artist inspired emulation. Instead of changing the pixels of the photo itself, it uses the input image only as a guide to automatically paint the scene with different brushes and stylistic techniques. This approach means it functions independent of image resolution, a really interesting feature. In this example, I set the output canvas to 4000 pixels in the longest dimension, launched the pastel style, and let it run overnight.
