t the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve, we all acquired backcountry day hiking permits, available free, and traversed the “three pasture loop trail.” The grasses were a wonderful golden brown, the sky partly overcast, and the temperature ideal for hiking. Along the way, we passed this extremely beautiful small pond nestled in the surrounding hills. There is something both soothing and hypnotic about being out in the natural prairie.
