Kalida Kansas | Cold storage Castle construct Limestone cave |

ou will not find Kalida on a Kansas map. That's because the town was moved in 1874 to Yates Center. But at least one resident remained, a Mr. James Davidson, who in an effort to commemorate the site hired a stone mason to construct this ornate 'Castle Cave' structure. The thick walls are seventy six feet long, and from the back the building resembles a bunker. Used to support a farming operation, this was essentially a refrigerator. The door was unlocked, and adventurously I entered into a chilly arched room, which you will see tomorrow.
“The town of Kalida had a hotel, livery stable, two grocery stores, two stores that advertised "Hats and Caps: Boots and Shoes"; a barber shop, drug store, shoe shop, blacksmith shop, post office, billiard hall, meat market, three doctors, two preachers, one lawyer and a newspaper, The Kalida Advocate.” - R.
