agnificent examples of restored Victorian architecture built in the late 1800's can be observed in Fort Scott, KS. After the Civil War, Fort Scott was an important frontier municipality and one of the largest cities in eastern Kansas. When these structures were built, Fort Scott was in competition with Kansas City to become the largest railroad and trade center west of the Mississippi river. Luckily for current residents, the contest was lost.
