Heart of the Heartland | Fallyne Marie Great Plains Passenger Train |
O
n a recent road trip swing through southeast Kansas, Terry and I stumbled upon the tiny town of Scammon. With a name like that, an investigation was in order. In an otherwise nondescript hamlet, there sits a collection of old train cars and restored train depots. Apparently the work of a club, we enjoyed an hour of unrestricted photographic access. After returning home, a Google search revealed that "Excursion Train Rides" are sometimes offered.
“I knew I was going to take the wrong train, so I left early.” - Yogi Berra

Comments
The central train is dispiritedly unoccupied, lacking passengers and devoid of the exhilaration of movement. The destination remains unverifiable, and is not necessary relevant. The nonexistent journey has not yet commenced or has already terminated. The picture captures the neutral space of indeterminacy or that which will be a foreshadow.
Empty train
