his “root cellar,” found on the Kansas prairie, is constructed with thick limestone at ground level with earth and sod piled over it. As I entered, an engulfing envelope of cool damp air was immediately sensed. In addition to storing perishable food, this would seem to provide an excelled shelter from a tornado. I tried to turn on the lone electric bulb hanging from the ceiling with no luck. To make this image, I leaned against the right wall for stability and shot with my 12mm ultra wide lens.
