Condense | Subfreezing water vapor Crystalline droplets Fernlike assemblage |
A
narrow nondescript grass median between the sidewalk and the road is transformed by frost early in the morning to create a speckled decorative surface. Although I was running a little late for a meeting, I had to stop and record the minute granular deposit. Atmospheric moisture crystallizes when water vapor passes into the ice-crystal phase without going through the intermediate liquid phase. I really like the color effect caused by the light feathery frozen dew as the radiation wavelengths are averaged towards neutral.
