T
he art gallery constructed and presented as art. For an object to qualify as art it should differ interestingly from others of its kind. Thus the desire to make something special is characteristic of the artistic process. Although some critics deem art should be immediately engaging, a lot of art is inaccessible because it requires background knowledge. Thus some art is aimed only at a small group of viewers. Perhaps an important component of acculturation is the development of an understanding and appreciation of art.
“Every work of art causes the receiver to enter into a certain kind of relationship both with him who produced, or is producing, the art, and with all those who, simultaneously, previously, or subsequently, receive the same artistic impression.” - Leo Tolstoy
