Cornerstone | Art deco Power light Prominent night |
K
ansas City is a great place for night photography, as many buildings are illuminated aesthetically. Thirty six stories high, the Power and Light Building is an iconic Art Deco structure which when completed in 1931 was the tallest skyscraper in Missouri, and remained so for 45+ years. On top is a pillar with recessed alcoves containing prismatic glass panels that cycle light colors through red, white, amber, and green.
“Later I would think of America as one vast City of Night stretching gaudily from Times Square to Hollywood Boulevard--jukebox-winking, rock-n-roll-moaning: America at night fusing its darkcities into the unmistakable shape of loneliness.” John Francisco Rechy
