Ritz | Big marquee Small town theater Feature presentation |
I
n the early 1900's, the Ritz was a fashionable and popular name for cinemas throughout the country. It was not a chain, but rather many independently owned operations using the same moniker. As I travel visiting small towns I find what is left of these once thriving entertainment establishments. In some cases they have been restored, but most are in relatively bad shape and being used for nightclubs, bars, churches and other assorted social activities.
“What people really want in the theater is fantasy involvement and not reality involvement.” - Edward Albee
