S omething about these old store signs is appealing. Quaint uncomplicated symbols of past cultural communication, they unobtrusively endure. This one is in Weston Missouri, an old river town founded in 1837. Interestingly, the Missouri River flooded in 1881 and rerouted its channel two miles west of the port, deflecting riverboat traffic and retarding the economy. The long term consequence of the flood was to isolate the community and preserve the antebellum and Victorian buildings from continued growth and development. This Hotpoint sign was installed on one of the old buildings on Main Street in the 1940's.

“No company that markets products or services to the consumer can remain a leader in its field without a deep-seated commitment to advertising.” - Edwin L. Artzt
