negative-space entity subtracting yet adding to the vista. There is a long tradition of photographers acknowledging themselves by including their shadow in the image. The idea of course is to use the adumbration as a design element in some interesting way. From time to time I enjoy playing with this motif, and will display a few images positioned squarely in this genre over the next week. Just like shadowboxing, this practice can prepare the imaging muscles before engaging more demanding conditions.
