Early Neon | Palace hotel Bath house Rich in history |
W
hile visiting Eureka Springs, we stayed in the Palace Hotel which was originally built in 1901. At that time, the draw to this area was the alleged beneficial health effects of the water available from the many mountain springs nearby. The most known notable celebrity frequenting the Palace was W.C. Fields. Of course today all the springs are polluted, and only offer aesthetic enjoyment. Today the Victorian town is still a tourist attraction, with its restored architecture featuring many specially shops and interesting restaurants.
The sign here rendered was the first such neon message installed west of the Mississippi river. The neon sign was painted by a popular sign painter of the area, whose name was Golly - all of his work was signed "By Golly."
“Attitude is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than what people do or say. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill.” - W. C. Fields
