nother image from Manawa Lake in southeastern Iowa, this one features a fair amount of post-processing to salvage unexciting ambient lighting conditions. "Manawa" is a Native American term meaning "peace and comfort." The 772-acre lake was formed during a flood in 1881 when a portion of the Missouri River channel was cut off by the high waters. This consequential landform is called an "oxbow lake" or an "abandoned meander loop" for the distinctive curved shape that results from this process.
