New Foliage

Across the valley
Konza Prairie

M y second visit to the Konza Prairie Research Natural Area just south of Manhattan Kansas was another wonderful experience. Newly emerging grasses were much shorter than I expected, but provided an excellent opportunity to garner an understanding of the shape of the land. The abundant limestone rocks that are a primary feature of the area were exposed. The larger plants, trees and bushes that survived the recent controlled burn were lacy with many subtle shades and hues of green. Red buds in full blossom peppered the landscape. This image was shot at 300mm late in the day with the sun at my back.
